GreenWorks 2600402

Features
  • Type: single-stage
  • Power Source: 1 x 80V battery
  • Clearing path: 20 in
  • Clearing height (max.): 10 in
  • Headlight: yes
  • Dimensions: 31 x 21.6 x 37 inches
  • Weight: 33 lbs
  • Warranty: 4 years

This may not be the biggest one you see on our list today but the GreenWorks 2600402 is one of the best rated cordless snow blower options on the 2019 market because it comes with so many benefits; ideal for the average home owner.

Let’s start with the impressive battery on this model: it can run for around 45 minutes which is impressive for battery operated snow blowers. And when you need to recharge it only takes 30 minutes!

Of course you’ll enjoy the benefits related to most battery powered blowers such as its quiet running and the fact that you don’t have to do maintenance. And let’s not forget that it’s super light. These characteristics make it practical for home owners such as the elderly. Someone who is frail can now clean their own driveways without the fear of hurting themselves maneuvering a large object. And if you don’t know anything about servicing machines, don’t worry because this one doesn’t require much upkeep.

A bonus is its long warranty period of four years on defects, so you know you’re buying a long-term investment.

When it comes to capability it’s impressive enough for most home scenarios, but not industrial applications. You can remove 20” wide sections at a time, even if the snow is 10” deep. Good performance is thanks to a brushless motor that provides you with more torque. For more extreme snow drifts you’ll need a bigger machine though.

We also like the green hues, making you easy to notice when working beside the road. Some plastic components may not be as durable as you’ll find on other models though. Still, it’s our editor’s favorite for providing a balance of features to the modern homeowner.

Take note of the chute that can turn 180° so you can deposit the snow exactly where you need it to go.

    Why is it special?
  • Lightweight
  • Long warranty
  • Impressive battery life
  • Charges quick
    What are the flaws?
  • Not for industrial use
  • Can’t handle very deep snow

Customer’s Choice

YARDMAX YB5765

Features
  • Type: two-stage
  • Power source: gas
  • Clearing path: 22 in
  • Clearing height (max.): 16 in
  • Headlight: no
  • Dimensions: 47.2 x 42.9 x 22 inches
  • Weight: 161 lbs
  • Warranty: 2 years residential; 90 days commercial

We’ll move from single stage to two stage with this YARDMAX model. It’s an impressive gas powered model and with this one you can clear a path 22” wide at a time.

Don’t be daunted by the more intricate powering mechanism because this one starts up easily thanks to the recoil function. The multiple speeds as well as reverse settings will make it fairly easy to control. You can also make adjustments to the chute quickly via the control crank. If you turn and need the snow pumped in a different direction, make changes on the go.

The designers ensured the snow can be thrown far away from the machine if needed. This is thanks to the mechanisms inside. It also minimizes blowback.

The brand incorporated housing that works like an axe: it will cut through ice or snow, making it easier to move forward after an extreme snow storm when snow is piled high. The augers are made of serrated steel to ensure some hard packed snow or even ice won’t keep you from finishing your work.

It requires more space for storage than some of our compact models and it will make some noise, but that’s to be expected when you need a more heavy duty model. Note that some users find it uses more gas than they expected.

Customers love the design of the handle area. It’s at a comfortable height and the extras are handy! And thanks to the grip that gets warmed up while you work it makes for a more comfortable experience doing your chores.

We do hope the manufacturer brings out a more detailed manual that discusses gas and oil usage in depth.

    What are our favorite features?
  • Easy to work with
  • Heated handle
  • Serrated steel augers
  • Can handle thick snow
    What could be better?
  • Bigger and heavier than some others
  • Heavy on gas
  • Manual not detailed enough

Best Light Cordless Snow Blower

Ryobi RY40840

Features
  • Type: single-stage
  • Power source: 1 x 40V battery
  • Clearing path: 18 in
  • Clearing height (max.): 8 in
  • Headlight: yes
  • Dimensions: not specified
  • Weight: 35 lbs
  • Warranty: 5 years, 90 days commercial

From the trusted brand Ryobi comes another green colored model and it’s one of our best cordless electric snow blower options because it’s so light. We’re also impressed with the long warranty period.

It’s super easy to operate because you simply push a button and the brushless motor, as in our Editor’s Choice model above, will give you a lot of power. And best of all with battery operated models: there’s very little noise.

The lightweight design is easy to handle but note that it doesn’t work on all types of snow. Certain conditions may result in some clogging. It’s designed for smaller cleaning jobs, not clearing a large industrial site of snow. But for many homeowners it’s the ideal, compact solution if you face a few inches of snow at a time.

You’ll appreciate how far this little machine can throw the snow. And you can adjust the chute 180° so you can deposit it exactly where you want it to go. Just be careful you don’t push the chute handle or mechanism too hard when making adjustments or storing it, because it may break. Many components in this model are made of plastic, so you need to handle it with some care.

For a light unit that won’t strain your back, this is it.

What do we love it for?
  • Lightweight
  • Throws snow far away
  • Runs quiet
    What were we disappointed with?
  • Plastic components can break easily
  • Only handles a few inches of snow

Best 1-Stage Cordless Snow Blower

Snow Joe iON100V-21SB-CT

Features
  • Type: single-stage
  • Power source: 1 x 100V battery
  • Clearing path: 21 in
  • Clearing height (max.): 12 in
  • Headlight: yes
  • Dimensions: 29.8 x 21.75 x 37.4 inches
  • Weight: 69 lbs
  • Warranty: 2 years

Here’s another battery operated one but you may appreciate this one’s capabilities if you need something a bit more powerful than the lightweight models above. Improved performance is thanks to the auger which assists you during the drive and propels you forward. In part, that’s why you can clear thicker snow—as much as 12”—with this one, compared to other battery operated ones listed above.

The battery holds for around 30 minutes which is acceptable for this niche.

Unlike some single stage units that you can’t use on rough surfaces, this one is a little more versatile because of the scraper bar at the bottom. When you use it on gravel or your driveway there’s less chance of the auger components getting damaged.

It’s not the cheapest but fairly priced and included in that cost you get two strong LED lights. The 2.5W lights are well situated at the front to light up your path.

It’s another brushless motor design which minimizes noise, but also makes for a longer lifespan for the motor.

Note that additional batteries are expensive. Keep that in mind as a possible extra expense if you have a large area to clean and don’t want to wait each time for the battery to recharge before you continue.

    What are its best features?
  • Low noise
  • Scraper bar protects underside
  • Augers assist driving
    What could be improved?
  • Batteries are expensive

Best Battery-Powered Cordless Snow Blower

EGO Power+ 21"

Features
  • Type: single-stage
  • Power source: 2 x 56V batteries
  • Clearing path: 21 in
  • Clearing height (max.): 13 in
  • Headlight: yes
  • Dimensions: 38.5 x 23.8 x 19.8 inches
  • Weight: 53.35 lbs (without battery pack)
  • Warranty: 5 years, 3 years batteries

From EGO you get an impressive cordless snow blower, driven by a battery and with an exceptional warranty. It’s a safe purchase no matter your needs.

We love that many of EGO’s products use the same batteries so if you already own some of the brand’s other tools you may not have to purchase a battery, saving you some money.

If you don’t have much space, no problem. This design allows you to fold the handle so it becomes more compact than most others on our list. Other nifty features include a headlight so you can work any time of the day.

It’s easy to control but a little heavier than some other battery operated models. While more weight isn’t ideal it’s not as heavy as some other items on our list. And more weight compared to light battery operated ones means you get a sturdier design that can handle more challenging snow conditions.

The levers are easy to operate; not much power needed. This makes it ideal for the elderly to use as well.

You can throw the snow as much as 15ft away from you with this model.

    What are its best features?
  • Powerful enough
  • Throws snow far
  • Folds up small
  • Uses same battery as other EGO products
    What could be improved?
  • Can’t handle very thick snow

Best Gas-Powered Cordless Snow Blower

Poulan Pro PR241

Features
  • Type: two-stage
  • Power source: gas
  • Clearing path: 24 in
  • Clearing height (max.): 23 in
  • Headlight: yes
  • Dimensions: 52.2 x 28.5 x 35 inches
  • Weight: 240 lbs
  • Warranty: 2 years, 4 years engine

If you’re set on getting a gas powered model we suggest you give this one some serious consideration. Poulan included some impressive features such as comfort grip on the handles which means less hand fatigue when you work for a long time.

It will cut down your time frame considerably thanks to the design of the augers: the ribbon type component can easily cut through ice or snow, so you’ll glide through your work. This performance is further enhanced by a powerful 208cc motor.

You can clear an area as wide as 24” at a time and the large wheels won’t easily get stuck. There’s even power steering and all of this means less effort on your part. It is heavy, but the steering and positioning of the levers mean even older, frail people will find it easy to control. Just know that it will be tricky to maneuver in small spaces because it’s BIG.

The chute can turn in a half circle, making for accurate snow deposits where you want it.

This machine is durable and we appreciate the long warranty period. It may start to give problems with starting in extremely cold weather, but that’s to be expected with many gas powered units.

What do we love it for?
  • Powerful
  • Handles thick snow
  • Clears a large area
  • Power steering
    What were we disappointed with?
  • Very big and heavy
  • May struggle to start after some use

Best 3-Stage Cordless Snow Blower

Troy-Bilt Vortex 2490

Features
  • Type: three-stage
  • Power source: gas
  • Clearing path: 24 in
  • Clearing height (max.): 21 in
  • Headlight: yes
  • Dimensions: 48.63 x 30.75 x 34.5 inches
  • Weight: 264 lbs
  • Warranty: 2 years

You only have to give this Troy-Bilt snow blower one look to know that it’s a wise investment. It’s large and heavy so it’s a little more difficult to control than the small models, but if you’re dealing with a lot of snow you need this heavy duty build for the task. With this one you can clear a path even if snow is piled higher than 20” so it makes quick work of chores after a heavy snow storm.

One area the engineers need to improve is the chute control because this is a little difficult to control. But apart from that you’ll enjoy it because it starts up easily. Users also appreciate that it throws snow quite far from the machine. The three stage method is effective but note that this one does have a hefty price tag. Still, it’s worth the money if you want to get the work done fast. In some cases, you won’t even break a sweat before you’re done and homeowners can get their driveways cleared in half the time.

If you have to work after dark, not a problem: this one has a headlight.

The sturdy tires make it easy to roll across different surfaces in your yard and you can steer it with one hand if necessary. Great engineering!

    What makes it special?
  • Powerful enough for thick snow
  • Throws snow far
  • Sturdy wheels
    What cons did we find?
  • Expensive
  • Heavy
  • Chute control is difficult

Cub Cadet 3X

Features
  • Type: three-stage
  • Power source: gas
  • Clearing path: 26 in
  • Clearing height (max.): 21 in
  • Headlight: yes
  • Dimensions: 49 x 28.5 x 34 inches
  • Weight: 265 lbs
  • Warranty: Auger Gearbox Warranty5-year limited residential / 5-year limited commercial/ Warranty3-year limited residential / 1-year limited commercial

Here’s another one that impresses upon first sight—it’s quite a monster; but be prepared for the expensive price. It’s worth every cent though, especially if you have to clear thick snow. This one can also handle snow piled higher than 20”.

It’s a three stage unit and this along with the design means that work gets done faster. It works better on powder snow than wet snow but snow and ice won’t hold this one back, even if the snow is packed tightly. Even when moving uphill you’ll see excellent results—the blower helps propel you forward so work becomes more effortless. In part this is thanks to the Induction Accelerator. The machine will draw the ice and snow through it, helping to get momentum for a smooth forward movement. The design ensures there’s not too much weight at the front, making it relatively easy to swivel and turn.

The brand built in various extra features and on very cold days you’ll appreciate the hand warmers.

This one is heavy but luckily there are big wheels that make for easy moving across your premises. It’s also bigger than many others on our list, but worth sacrificing space if you live in an area prone to receive a lot of snow.

Thanks to the large gas tank you can clear a large area in one session.

Also, you can’t beat the warranty this brand provides you with, so you can have peace of mind: you’re covered for a long time.

    Why are we impressed?
  • Powerful
  • Hand warmers
  • Works for deep snow
  • Handles well
  • Long warranty
What negatives must you be aware of?
  • Expensive
  • Big and heavy

Best 2-Stage Cordless Snow Blower

Snow Joe iON8024

Features
  • Type: two-stage
  • Power source: 2 x 40V/6.0 Ah batteries
  • Clearing path: 24 in
  • Clearing height (max.): 13 in
  • Headlight: yes
  • Dimensions: 47 x 25.7 x 40 inches
  • Weight: 105.8 lbs
  • Warranty: 2 years

For an excellent balance of features we suggest our favorite 2 stage model from Snow Joe. It has all the extras you would expect from quality models such as headlights and a decent warranty. But we specifically liked the control panel between the handles where you can see information such as battery levels and even the speed selection.

Because the augers are made of steel, not rubber as you’ll see on some other Snow Joe models, you can clear ice and snow easier. This one can clear as much as 1000lb each minute if you have enough momentum going.

Powered by two 40V batteries you can enjoy 30 to 40 minutes of work at a time, which is sufficient for many households. Note that the charger and battery won’t necessary be included in your purchase, because some merchants only sell the core tool. Make sure what you pay for. And it takes a while to charge the batteries once depleted.

A handy extra is the cover designed by the brand which makes it easier to store it: if you don’t have time to clean it, pop the cover on and you won’t get dirty when walking past it in the cluttered garage.

It’s powerful but still runs quiet.

    What are our favorite features?
  • Handy display panel shows battery levels
  • Battery lasts long
  • Steel augers
  • Runs quiet
    What could be better?
  • Battery and charger not always included
  • Long charging time

Budget Pick

PowerSmart DB2401

Features
  • Type: single-stage
  • Power source: 1 x 40V battery
  • Clearing path: 18 in
  • Clearing height (max.): 11 in
  • Headlight: no
  • Dimensions: 44 x 20 x 36 inches
  • Weight: 34.8 lbs
  • Warranty: 1 year

If price is a major concern, no need to worry: we have your solution in our budget pick and it comes from PowerSmart. Even though it’s cheap you can still face snow of over 10” deep and this one will work well enough.

You’ll love how light it is, making it easy to store away when you’re done. It’s small enough to store behind a door even—user friendly!

There’s no lack of power even though it’s such a lightweight unit: you can throw snow 30ft out of the way so it doesn’t melt into your driveway again. Simply use the 180° chute rotation to put snow exactly where you want it.

The 18” wide cleaned pathway you’ll get isn’t the widest from models on our list, but still substantial for such a small machine. It may struggle on very wet snow, but otherwise it works sufficiently.

Battery life may be a concern because this one only holds for 25 minutes, but if you have a small driveway to clear this won’t bother much. It recharges within 70 minutes. That’s longer than you’ll have to wait with our higher end models, but for a budget buy that’s to be expected.

You’ll also appreciate to know the brand provides good customer service so if something does go wrong with your budget purchase there’s someone that will help you.

    Why are we impressed?
  • Compact design stores easily
  • Low price
  • Good customer service
What negatives must you be aware of?
  • Charges slow
  • Not ideal for wet snow

Things to Consider

We want to help you make the best choice when picking the best cordless snow blower from our list. This buying guide along with the cordless snow blower reviews are designed to give you the knowledge to make an informed choice when upgrading your equipment this winter.

Features to consider while choosing a cordless snow blower?

Scroll down and you’ll see important features to consider when you’re shopping for your snow blower. Read up on each aspect so you can gauge which of the best cordless electric snow blower models are most appropriate for you. We’ll help you shop like a pro and get the best value for money.

Type

10 Best Cordless Snow Blowers - No More Outlets

First of all, you’ll see our cordless snow blower reviews mention the type of machine you can buy. This refers to the number of stages the machines use to rid an area of snow.

You can opt for a simple single stage snow blower like the Ryobi RY40840 if you’re looking for a unit that’s easy to handle. These models are favorites because they’re usually compact. That makes them easy to store. But their application is limited. You can’t really use them on gravel areas because there are components that make contact with the ground and on rough surfaces it will cause damage. They’re also more appropriate for areas with moderate snowfalls, not heavy storms.

For more heavy duty snow blowing you’ll need a two stage or three stage snow blower such as the three stage Cub Cadet 3X. A two stage model has an auger that collects the snow and an impeller to deposit the snow far away. This method also prevents clogging so you can keep working even if you’re facing extreme amounts of snow. The best two stage snow blowers can handle 18” of snow or even more.

For impressive performance you may want to acquire a three stage snow blower. These are especially beneficial when cleaning a large area because the blowers can deposit the snow far away from the machine; even 50ft away. The working method incorporates augers that collect snow after which it’s pushed together inside the machine. It’s then moved to the impeller that can launch it far distances. Once again these steps help prevent clogging and make the machine more efficient when facing thick snow. Even for 20” of snow—even more if you have one of the best rated cordless snow blower models around—this type can work.

Power Source

Power source matters because it determines how user friendly your snow blower is.

We showcased cordless blowers in our snow blower reviews because they’re so practical. You don’t need a specially designed cord that can handle cold weather because the model doesn’t have to be plugged into a power outlet.
What you do have to decide is whether you want a gas or battery operated cordless snow blower. A battery operated one has benefits such as running quiet and it’s more environmentally friendly, as it is with GreenWorks 2600402. They’re also low maintenance units because there are fewer parts that can break down. If the battery works on other appliances in your tool shed it’s also budget friendly. Battery operated ones are lighter than many others, making them easy to control and carry if necessary. They’re even safer to use and you won’t easily injure yourself pushing a lightweight model.
What about gas units? Remember that if you have a large property you need more power which is why there’s still a huge market for gas powered snow blowers. Make sure the blower you pick is big enough so you can do a large area in a short amount of time.

Last tip: your battery driven unit can run out of power in a short space of time. You can keep additional batteries on hand, but if your large property takes a long time to clear of snow, a bigger gas driven model like the Troy-Bilt Vortex 2490 is a good option.

Clearing path and height

That brings us to the requirements of your specific task. How big is your garden and what type of snow fall do you usually get?

Make sure your cordless snow blower is wide enough so you can clear a lot in just one go. It must also be able to handle the height of the snow without requiring you to make two trips over the same area

.

Headlights

Snowy weather means short days and longer nights so you may often have to clear the driveway in the dark. To light up your path at dawn or dusk headlights are extremely handy, but they’re not found on all models. They’re worth the extra expense though!

Dimensions

Dimensions of your new snow blower must firstly work for the layout of your premises. Will you be able to push it around corners easily? And if you have a lot of trees or other objects in your garden or on the sidewalk can you easily maneuver around them and through small spaces between walls, plants and other objects?

Secondly, consider if you have enough space in your shed or garage to store your new equipment. You can’t leave it outside indefinitely because it can get damaged. If your storage space is limited, rather opt for a smaller model such as the EGO Power+ 21″ to make it easy to look after your new investment.

Warranty

10 Best Cordless Snow Blowers - No More Outlets

Your new machine will work hard in tough conditions such as cold temperatures. Chances are that something can go wrong so having a warranty is essential on these types of machines. Make sure you know what the warranty covers so you’re not caught unawares. It may only be for manufacturing faults and not for damage caused after purchase. Luckily in this industry you can get warranties that cover you for as long as five years.

Extra features

If you have the budget it’s worth investing in extras that make the work more comfortable. A popular extra is heated handles that come in handy on very cold days.

Or make sure you stay in control of the situation with a model that has a control panel, showing you battery levels. Make sure you know how much power is left so you can plan ahead for when it runs out.

Also make sure you know what you’re paying for: not all battery operated units come with chargers and batteries included. This may be an extra expense you have to budget for.

Price

Browse through lists of snow blowers and you may notice that electric snow blowers powered by rechargeable batteries are often cheaper than their gas powered counterparts. That doesn’t mean they’re the best, especially if you need the power of a large motor, often powered by gas.

Consider the long term expenses. You’ll pay more for regular use and maintenance when you have a gas powered unit. That’s because battery operated ones’ components rarely require replacements; unlike a gas powered one that you know will need maintenance, services such as oil changing and repairs.

Consider the price and availability of new batteries when you pick a battery operated one. Don’t be left without a source of power if a battery does stop working.

FAQ

Can cordless snow blowers be used on all types of grounds?

Whether you can use it on a certain surface depends on the type of cordless snow blower you picked. A single stage snow blower can usually not be used on gravel, but larger, three stage units are safe to use on most areas when they’re fitted with strong, big enough wheels.

Can I use my snow blower at extreme low temperatures?

The quality of the design depends what temperatures the snow blower can handle. Some batteries may not function well in extreme cold and also know that certain lower end models can handle snow, but not ice. On very cold days a gas powered model may also struggle to start on the first try.

Do the snow blowers come fully assembled?

Each purchase is unique but be prepared to do some assembly and look for units that you know have clear instructions included.

Our verdict

If you do need some power our second choice which is gas powered may be better. The YARDMAX YB5765 is efficient thanks to steel components and heated handles are excellent extra features!

Hello! Which model will be the best for quite a large yard? I think it should be rather powerful.

Hello, Mary! If you need a heavy-duty cordless snow blower, you may consider, for example, our Customer’s Choice, YARDMAX YB5765, or a 3-stage model, Troy-Bilt Vortex 2490. They’re really powerful and suitable for larger areas in locations with heavy snowfalls.

I want my next snow blower to be cordless – tired of all these messy cords. But not quite sure about the brand. Greenworks looks great, but I haven’t used any of them before.

Hello, Eric! Greenworks Tools is a trusted manufacturer, their snow blowers are considered among the best and are on our lists of the greatest products in many articles. You can read more about their units , including cordless snow blowers, here: https://www.backyardstyle.com/best-greenworks-snow-blower/

Thanks for a great article! I’ve never owned a snowblower before so it was really useful. I think I’m gonna purchase a 1-stage snowblower, they seem to fit my yard best. But I still have doubts about which model to choose. Some advice on it?

Hello, Sophia! Thank you for your feedback!
A single-stage snow blower is a great choice for removing snow which is not very deep and heavy. Such models are usually quite light, and cordless snow blowers are even more easy to maneuver. You can find our reviews on some great single-stage models in this article: https://www.backyardstyle.com/best-single-stage-snow-blower/

Guys, from your experience, those who’ve used them. How long do they actually last? Will this be enough to remove all the snow on one charge?

It depends! Some snow blowers can run for 30 to 45 min, but you should consider the type and depth of snow as well. I was able to run my Greenworks for 40 minutes on average snow, for example. Check the reviews before you buy.

I bought Ryobi last winter. What can I say… I like the battery operation, but I didn’t like how it clogged in wet snow. It would be helpful if a tool came with it, and the directions were hard to understand. But once you assemble it, it works well. You have to make sure that you use a sinking screw because most of them are Phillips head screws. And today when we used my new snow blower for the first time, I had a problem with the chute clogging in wet snow. We will use WD40 next time so that this does not happen again! It was a little hard to push too but it’s not a self propelled model so this is understandable

Does anyone know what kind of oil should i use in the Troy-Bilt Vortex 2490?

10-30 works pretty good. And I’ll probably use synthetic next time I change oil.

5W-30 is also fine

I ve read plenty of reviews and ended up buying Snow Joe. It never gonna be as powerful as a gas snow blower, but it actually shouldn’t be! I have a gas 2 stage snow thrower and it is much more powerful. It can cut through the heavy snow and slush easily. But I needed a snow thrower that would fit inside my house, and a gas unit was not an option because of the smell of the fuel. The set up for this Snow Joe was easy and quick, so my first time using it was to clear 6 inches of fresh powder away from my door way. It did well at clearing the snow!

Huh… Seems like many snow blowers are unavailable right now… Does it mean it’s too late to buy one? Have they all been already sold out??>D

I can say my ego power snow blower works great for the most part. This snowblower is awesome because it moves really easily. You don’t have to pull levers or anything to turn, you just do it. I’ve read some reviews that said that this snowblower doesn’t hold itself back when going down a hill, but I think it’s fine because big, heavy snowblowers don’t either. The controls are good, but not perfect. The chute direction (left/right) can be moved too easily, and it does not stay in the same place. I talked to eGo about this, and they said that is a known issue that they are working on fixing. The chute height control is too coarse for me; it always seems like it shoots either too high or too low from where I want it to go. It would be great if I could also use this stick for the left/right control; most snowblowers have this ability with their left/right stick. With shallow snow, it works just fine. After snow storm, however, you probably will need to make two passes with it.
