It discharges snow up to 20 feet, and its adjustable 180-degree chute streamlines the process. The seller mentioned that it’s excellent for both small to medium-sized yards, and you can purchase complementary gardening tools that are geared towards simplifying the process of clearing snow.

Its auger is plastic, and the blades are prone to break or fail to move from side to side. One user claimed that its extension cord is about 50 feet.

Two-stage snow blowers utilize a heavy auger to pull in snow and disintegrate chunks of ice. They can handle snow as deep as 12’’ and throw snow up to 50 feet.

Capacity

An excellent snow blower should move massive amounts of snow per minute. Experts recommend splurging on a model like the EGO Power+ LB5302 that moves up to 1500 lbs./min if you’re in an area receiving heavy snowfalls or if you have large driveways or walkways. Alternatively, models like WEN 5662 suit users with small sidewalks or driveways, and they can move up to 490 lbs./min.

Motor power

Unlike thermal motors, electric motors offer fast response and high control possibilities in snow blowers. Different snow blowers come with unique motor power. For instance, you can invest in an impressive model like Snow Joe SJ625E with 15 amp or Greenworks 2600202 that offers 13 amp. Machines with electric motors provide high energy efficiency, though they’re often bulky or expensive.

Clearing width and depth

Clearing width and depth falls among the most important factors to consider before splurging on a model.

The average electric snow blower clears up to 20-25 inches wide and 8-12 inches deep of snow.

You can get a snow blower like Snow Joe SJ625E that clears inches 12 inches deep and 21 inches wide to clear snow fast and make your work easier or invest in a two or three-stage snow blower if your areas receive more than 12 inches of snowfall.

Throwing distance

A great snow blower throws snow up to 15-20 feet high under normal conditions. Some of the factors influencing the distance the snow lands include wind direction and intensity, strength and condition of your engine, volume, and density of the snow, etc.

A model like the EGO Power+ LB5302 throws snow up to 35 ft. high while others like the PowerSmart DB5023H throw it up to 30 ft. high. Always check the condition of your engine for optimal performance, especially if your machine’s throwing ability starts reducing with time.

Corded vs. Cordless

10 Best Electric Snow Blowers for Clearing Your Driveway, Walkway or Backyard

Corded electric snow blowers like WEN 5662 are eco-friendly compared to gas-powered snow blowers.
They feature easy-to-move wheels and impressive chute for directing the discharged snow. Such snow blowers can handle 6-10 inches deep of snow.

Cordless snow blowers are not as powerful compared to gas-powered snow blowers though they’re environment-friendly and ideal for smaller spaces like backyard areas, patios, or driveways.

Weight

The weight of your snow blower depends on its type, model, brand, make, etc. Snow blowers like the Toro 38381 are lightweight, and this fosters easy storage and transportation.

You can purchase a heavier model like the EGO Power+ LB5302 that weighs 55 lbs. Though a lightweight snow blower comes with its pros regarding storage and transportation, experts claim that it may not always be the best option. This is because heavy snow blowers tend to cut through the snow below the pile without much strain, unlike the lightweight models.

Size

The size of a snow blower is linked to its type of stage, whether it’s a one-, two- or three-stage snow blower. Single-stage snow blowers like the Greenworks 2600202 have one part (the auger) performing the biggest proportion of the job.

Two-stage electric snow blowers have the auger, and the impeller facilitating the process of discharging snow while the three-stage snow blowers feature the addition of acceleration to boost the performance of the auger and impeller. Overall, single-stage blowers are the smallest compared to both two and three-stage snow blowers.

FAQ

How long do snow blowers last?

Snow blowers that were manufactured before 1980 tend to last for 40 to 50 years. The average lifespan of a modern snow blower ranges between 15 to 25 years. The number of years that your model will last depends on the level of care and maintenance you offer it.

Do you need a different snow blower for different types of snow?

Yes, electric snow blowers are easier to handle when removing snow from hard-to-reach areas. Gas snow blowers, on the other hand, are great for removing heavy and wet snow.

Are electric snow blowers loud?

No, electric snow blowers operate quietly, unlike the gas-powered models.

Our verdict

The truth is, choosing the right type of electric snow blower can be overwhelming. You’ll get several types and models with varying sizes, capacity, and several features that will confuse you. It’s even harder to make the right choice if it’s your first time purchasing one.

New models even introduce awesome features like a push-button, heated hand grips, and airless tires that never go flat. Our best pick is the Snow Joe SJ625E that is designed for mid-sized driveways and walkways. It’s a durable machine that does not rely on oil or gas, and it comes with 3D LED lights for boosting visibility when blowing snow in the morning or nighttime hours.

The second pick is EGO Power+ LB5302 which is powered by two EGO 56-Volt Arc Lithium batteries and performs without producing fumes, or noise. It can cut snow up to 13-inch deep and 21-inch wide with every pass.

Our last pick is the Greenworks 2600202 with a 13-amp clearing motor that works with its main components to throw snow up to 20 feet. It works silently, though ensure you use it at a reasonable distance from your windows.

I consider buying a cordless one. Are they reliable enough? There’s realy A LOT of snow every winter.

I own a one-stage Snow Joe, and sometimes it can’t cope with all the snow after a heavy snowfall. What do you guys think about a two-stage electric snow blower?

Snow Joe SJ625E is epic! We bought 3 their snowblowers in the last 15 years. This one is the best so far! This Snow Joe model has the plastic lever on one side of the handle. This means you can do more things with one hand. It is hard to use if you have a lot of snow to blow because your hand will get tired. But this model has the bar at the top which means you can use it with either or both hands which makes it easier and also reduces fatigue. There’s also a nifty led light on the handle, which helps a lot! This snow blower is is also good for snow that is more than 12 inches deep. It will not take as many bites of snow (not the whole width) and it will be slower, but anything is better than shoveling! The Snow Joe has cleared up to 18 inches of snow in one pass. However, I wouldn’t recommend to practice it too often. Overall, great quality for the money, and for an electric snow blower

Thanks! I was thinking about buying this. Was not just sure if I should opt for an electric or gas snow blower. Knowing that it can handle deeper snow occasionally really helps!

They all look pretty compact and lightweight compared to gas snow blowers. We usually don’t have much snow, so I was considering getting one of those. Any recommendations?

I like my Wen snow blower. It s 5th on the list. This thing is good for the first storm we had. It was about a month after we got it and we got about 4 feet of snow. Assembly was very quick and easy, only took 15 minutes with no tools needed. I pushed it to do 10 inches at a time. It can move more snow than shoveling if you want. The most I pushed it to move was 2 feet, but I only did that once. It took 3/4 of the driveway in one pass if it went out during a blizzard. The throwing distance is far enough. It is easy to start and adjust. It clears powdery snow, so you do not need to shovel it again. The machine does not shock me or overheat for 40 minutes of continuous use.

I’m pretty happy with the ego power. I like that it’s cordless! No those extension cords any more. It is so easy to use this guy in Minnesota when it’s winter. It easily crushes snow and ice and tosses it far away. I was impressed with that.

After reading reviews, I decided to buy the powersmart snow blower (not the cordless one on the list, a corded 21-inch model, DB5021). It turned out to be perfect for smooth surfaces and decks. I’ve read other reviews that say this does not work well on surfaces that are uneven. But it is amazing when you use it on decks! It’s been powerful enough so far. Easy to assemble and use, as well as lightweight enough and easy to steer.
